Until 2011, everything seemed clear in the music industry: pop was pop, reggaeton was reggaeton, reggae was reggae… The musical boundaries were rarely shaken by the occasional fusions; the urban genre dominated the market and the radio charts around the world, but no artist dared to merge with reggaeton; on the contrary, the vast majority were detractors and critics of the genre. On June 26 of that same year, in Pereira (Colombian Coffee Region), the group that would shake these boundaries appeared, fusing elements of various genres; their name: Alkilados; their battle cry: PURA PLAYA; their sound: INDEFINIBLE.
Juanito and Lucho, armed with Ukulele and Keyboard respectively, accompanied by Xavi (Guitar), Eche (Bass) and Sebas (Drums), entered the Colombian music market, refreshing the panorama with their beach sound, a different staging and a first album that would become an instant classic (8 number one singles prove it: SOLA, ESTO ES AMOR, SOLITARIA, RESPIRA, MONALISA, AMOR A PRIMERA VISTA, EL ORGULLO Y UNA CITA). Mixing organic elements of a live band with the digital sounds of urban, Hip Hop and electronic music, PURA PLAYA (their first album) blurred the boundaries between genres and positioned them as one of the most important new proposals in Latin music.
SOLITARIA, with the collaboration of EL DÁLMATA, was the song that snuck into different countries in Latin America and the world with the power of a viral hit; With an estimated 500 million views on YouTube (in all its versions), more than 1 million digital downloads and 22 weeks at number one on the radio, SOLITARIA introduced them to the world as what they are, an URBAN POP band, with many ideas and songs to dance to and fall in love with.
Then came RESPIRA, MONA LISA (considered song of the year in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Panama, Bolivia, among others), AMOR A PRIMERA VISTA, and EL ORGULLO (Nominated as Best Collaboration at the MTV MILLENNIAL AWARDS for its Remix with Farruko). Songs that all reached the top spots on the radio charts and became the soundtrack to the love stories of Latin Americans.
